Payment Network Manager

London (Sutton) or New York | Operations | Full-time

About Segovia

We’re working to improve the lives of the unbanked in emerging markets by connecting them to global payment networks. To do so, we build technology that makes it easy to pay and be paid by anyone, anytime, anywhere in the emerging markets.

Our platform is already being used to facilitate payments across Africa and Asia in some of the most challenging environments and worst humanitarian crises in the world. We help agriculture firms pay farmers, gig economy firms pay workers and offer diaspora communities a way to send money home to their friends and family. Just imagine the potential impact - direct and indirect - of building the rails to connect the 2.5B unbanked to modern enterprises around the world.

It’s an ambitious goal for a small NY/London-based team.  We’re looking to hire exceptional people who are excited by the mission, share our values and are pretty fun to be around. We have competitive salary and stock options, flexible hours, unlimited vacation, and great medical, dental, and vision benefits.

The Role

Segovia works with a wide range of mobile network operators, banks, and other financial institutions to send customer funds to people in emerging markets. We are looking for a hungry, all-around athlete who loves working with large, complex institutions to expand our payment network, and can manage end-to-end payment operations involving lots of different stakeholders.

The Payment Network Manager will report to our Head of Operations, and will be in charge of implementing country expansion strategies and supervising end-to-end payment flows for Segovia’s customers. The role can be based in London (Sutton) or New York and will require significant travel to Africa.

Specifically, you will:

  • Work with the Operations team to plan Segovia’s expansion with new markets and new partners
  • Conduct research and due diligence on attractive new payout countries and partners
  • Open bank accounts or other financial accounts to allow local funds settlement
  • Track incoming customer payments and credit customer wallets with the appropriate funds
  • Trade customer funds into foreign exchange where required and ensure deposit into the appropriate accounts
  • Collaborate with payment partners to resolve any payment issues (e.g., stuck payments, unscheduled system downtime)
  • Be the point person for customer-related issues relating to payments
  • Work with our engineering team to develop internal tooling for payment network management (e.g., liquidity dashboards, automatic reversals)

We hope you have:

  • 2+ years of experience in a top tier professional services job or in a payments role
  • Willing and excited to travel for extended periods of time in Africa
  • Experience working with businesses in emerging markets and making friends with busy decision-makers
  • A fantastic entrepreneurial spirit to knock on doors and get the right people to rapidly advance your goals
  • Able to innovate creative solutions to achieving your objectives in-country
